Simple Existance

Kage slipped through a sizable hole in the chain link fence surrounding the junkyard. The scents of rusting metal, stale dog scents and old gasoline made the air taste matallic and raw but Kage didn't care that much. He was used to much worse, having been a stray for a while now. The Caanan brute padded along a path between two towering piles of scrap metal and twisted cars so rusted they barely looked like cars. Soon enough they would be scrapped into something else. For now though, Kage assumed there would be one somewhere or other that would provide enough shelter for him to hide in.

Overhead churnning grey clouds tossed and turned through the sky as low thunder growled in the distance as it drew steadily closer. A storm was coming and even a dog knew that an open place wasn't the best place to be when a storm came. Kage sighed and paused. He looked and saw a rusted car. It's door was ajar. Kage padded toward it and nosed the door open and leapt into the backseat. Laying down on the backseat, Kage listened to the rain as it began.

Ayumu had followed a dog to the junkyard and got lost. He was about to go into a rusted car until a strange scent hit his nose. His fur bristled and his lips were back in a snarl. He walked inside the rusted car and looked at the dog in the backseat.

"Hey you lazy furball! This is mine! I claim it as my own, so leave if you don't want to get hurt!"

Ayumu didn't care if he was younger than this dog. Right now, he was wet, tired, and angry. He usually did become frustrated easily, but he only did it on rare occasions. With winter coming in and everything...

Kage yawned and raised his head to look at the other dog. "Really? Your scent was nowhere near here and I'm quite comfortable so no, I won't move. There's plenty of room if you'd like to sleep but I'm tired and right now in no mood to fight with pups." Kage put his head back on his paws, brown eyes drooping again. The sound of falling rain was a soothing sound that always made him sleepy. Kage was an easy to get along with dog as long as you didn't push too many buttons at once. He didn't mind the other dog, after all there was room for them both and then some but he knew this dog was probably an irritable one and would try to pick a fight.

Ayumu paused, his mouth wide. He stared straight at the dog with anger in his eyes. He didn't know what to say right now. It was raining and he couldn't fight right now. So he smiled and sat down in the front seat that was almost gone.
"Wanna be friends? Sorry I yelled at you like that."

He wagged his tail in a friendly fashion. No sense in making enemies, I guess. In a world like this, its good to have friends. He watched the dog in the back seat with his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

Kage opened one eye to look at the younger brute, studying him sleepily. "Very well" Kage mumbled, rolling onto his back and drifting in and out of sleep. "Name's Kage." Kage rolled back onto his belly, head once more laying on his paws. His thick fur was pale golden, paling to white on his belly and limbs, darker in some places then others. Around his neck a fine chain that had once served as a show collar was almost invisible against his fur. His tail was fairly short and when held high would curl into a spiral but right now simply was lank since Kage was about to fall asleep.

Ayumu couldn't sit still. He kept walking around and getting all fidgety. He tried to lay down, but couldn't. It wasn't the rain that was keeping him up.

"Well, my name is Ayumu. I'm bored. Aren't you bored? How can sleep when it's raining outside?"

He jumped out the car and shook his fur as rain fell on it. He ran over to a puddle and jumped in it. He splashed around, but after awhile, became bored again.

Kage sighed. He had forgotten how active pups could be. "I can sleep because I'm tired" Kage barked sleepily, tiredly pushing himself up into a sitting postion and looking out at Ayumu. He knew there was no sense in scolding the pup. If he got a cold, that was his problem. Kage wasn't cold-hearted, just cranky when he was tired. If the pup would just quit moving, he could sleep. Well actually, he could probably sleep anyway if the pup would just quit talking. That didn't seem possible so Kage resigned himself to a long day.

Ayumu walked to the car. He shook off waterdrops and mud. He watched as it splattered the car's sides and slid down. He was amused by it and watched the water and mud till it fell to the bottom.

"I'm still bored! There's nothing around her to do!"

He looked up and opened his mouth, catching small raindrops. That hardly helped, so he decided to run around the car, howling to the sky.

Sighing heavily, Kage leapt out of the rusty old car, careful to avoid Ayumu's little shake. No sleep would come his way until he wound down the pup first. The droplets of water couldn't soak through his thick fur and for once, the orange hound was happy he had his odd coat. His tail curled behind him in its natural position as he looked around at the towers of junk and broken garbage thrown away by humans. It was disgusting but still, it wasn't hard to find something to do. Kage looked at Amuyu with an amused expression. "Really? There's plenty to do here, especially for one as young as you."

Ayumu stopped and looked at him, wide-eyed. He sat still and wagged his tail, flicking a few drops of rain off his ears.

"There are? What! Tell me, please!"

He jumped up and smiled. But being really impatient for an answer, he ran over to a dirty chair cushion and shook it. Cotton came flying out and Ayumu started chasing at those. He didn't mind the rain.
